Greeting Settlers of Charles Towne~
Whether you settled in our beloved city “Charles
Towne” in 1670 or in “Charleston” in 2007, you
have grown to appreciate the history, culture, wildlife, low hanging
oak trees, rivers, beaches and the caring and loving people of the
Lowcountry.
Thank you for your interest in Charles Towne Landing.
The Friends of Charles Towne Landing has a mission to perpetuate
and celebrate the birthplace of South Carolina above and beyond
the means and resources given to the park by the state of South
Carolina.
Our programs promote living history by refurbishing
the Adventure, a reproduction 17th century cargo vessel, and by
re-creating the original palisade wall. It is extremely important
to recreate the history in order to educate current and future generations
on our ancestors struggle in the new world.
We support the Animal Forest that is the home
of many species indigenous to the Lowcountry when the settlers arrived
in 1670. You can be a part of the Animal Forest by adopting an animal.
(See “adopt an animal” on this Web site.)
It is important to always ask for volunteers.
There are many different ways to volunteer at a park as diverse
as Charles Towne Landing. Whatever your talent or time is, we have
a place for you here!
Often the FCTL offer educational programs that
the state has not prepared for in its annual budget. That is where
your donations really begin to touch the lives of the visitors to
our park. The more educated we are as a community about where we
come from, the better we will be as a community going forward into
the future.
Please consider joining The Friends of Charles
Towne Landing. We are a non-profit organization that is supported
only by generous supporters like you. I ask you and your family
to be a part of history by joining us in the preservation of your
birthplace and ours, Charles Towne Landing.
See You At The Park,
Philip L. Bradley
