Our
goal is to offer school groups an opportunity to tour and
learn about the site of the first permanent European settlement
in the Carolinas. We offer Discover
Carolina Programs, and Teacher-Led Self-Guided
Visits..
3rd Grade - Survival Through Success
8th Grade - Founding a Colony
- Discover Carolina programs offered for 3rd grade and 8th
grade to meet SC Social Studies Curriculum Standards.
- Programs are designed for 30 students with a maximum
of 65 students per day. Schools with large numbers of students
may book multiple visits.
- The length of a Discover Carolina visit is 4 hours. Discover
Carolina Programs are held from 9:00am to 2:00 pm.
- In order to effectively conduct the hands-on activities,
5 chaperones are needed for every 25 students. 5 adults
per 25 are included in the rate.
- The program takes place on the site’s history trail
and focuses on the site’s historical significance
and South Carolina public school Social Studies curriculum
standards. If time is available, self-guided short tours
of the animal forest may be possible but not guaranteed.
- Picnic tables are available on a first-come-first-served
basis.
- We are an outdoor walking site. The historical trail
is approximately one and a half miles. Be prepared for weather
and bugs.
